I ALMOST NEEDED A MOVING VAN FOR ALL MY BE-ALL 2004 CLOTHES! Answer: 18 pairs!

Welcome to My World...It's Not A Closet Anymore!
I will be the first to admit that on a Saturday night in Pittsburgh, there is a good chance that I will be with my friends at a bar or nightclub, yet I don't consider myself into the bar scene.  It's just that the fashions that I like to wear are better suited to be seen in a bar or nightclub than at a Wal-Mart or the mall.  Personally, I would like to go out more often to mainstream places, but again, my personal style of dressing is more appropriate for nightclubbing and dancing.  So what is a t-girl to do?  My first step was finally "coming out" and joining a local social group in this area called Transpitt.  As my confidence grew, along with my makeup skills and finally discovering a "beard cover" that works, it was time to venture out in public.  My first opportunity was at a Transpitt anniversary dinner, being held at a major hotel.   I was so incredibly nervous at the thought of walking through the grand lobby of this hotel on the way to the banquet room that I almost gave up...but I didn't and made it across the lobby, even asking a staff person for directions.  I must admit that it was a very empowering experience for me and it changed my life forever.  Since that first time out, my growth has included attending a number of transgender conferences, GLBT community events, "black tie" charity balls, a few dinners at restuarants, trips to museums and even enjoying vacationing as Robyn.  Of course, there is my passion for dancing, which is my way to work off all the stress of the week and at the same time "feel like a girl."  And on those nights that are just for getting together and seeing friends, or welcoming a first timer, going to a bar is fine by me as long as I know my limits and take care when getting behind the wheel of my car.

Do you live in the western Pennsylvania / tri-state region?  I invite you to consider joining Transpitt, serving our community since 1983.  Their office is open every Monday night except holidays from 7-930pm.  Call their outreach volunteers at 412-422-1558.

Going Out In Public...
what a rush!

I love fancy charity ball type events.  I'm still exclusively GLBT event oriented but someday I will join some close friends and do a more public venue.  It's all a part of my personal growth as Robyn.

The one thing a girl needs is ATTITUDE!

As you can see from these pictures, I enjoy going out to public places "en femme".  It took a long time to get up the courage and self-confidence to do it, not to mention the hours of preparation to get all done up as Robyn.  I'm still not comfortable with the idea of going shopping at the mall or even know if that is something I really would like to do.  My personal tastes are more for speciality clothing shops, restaurants, public events in the GLBT community, museums and of course the wonderful events like Be-All and Southern Comfort.  I have visited Las Vegas and Rehoboth Beach, shopping and going out to restuarants and nightclubs, in addition to Atlanta, Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, and Cincinnati for the conventions.   I know for some of you girls that this is close to impossible, but I encourage you to try.  Until then, I am happy and honored to share my experiences with you.

Crossdressed & Nowhere To Go?
After almost 40 years of "being in the closet" and a few late night forays out in public, I realized that there had to be something safer, more enjoyable and better than what I doing up to that point.  Besides, the late-night trips were potentially hazardous.  Walking around an apartment complex after midnight or a local school or shopping center late at night was an invitation for a policeman to investigate what certainly appeared to be suspicious behavior!  Was I more afraid of meeting others like myself than the fear of getting seen, "discovered" or possibly even arrested?  Apparently so, and that just didn't make good common sense.  So back in 1993, before there was everyday access to the internet, I finally made contact with Transpitt.  The phone call was so terrifying to me that the one time someone live actually answered, I hung up!  What was so incredibly terrifying about making contact with others like myself?  To this day, I still don't know what was so frightening about making that first contact.  After hanging up, I felt bad about what I had done, so I called back and apologized to the person who had taken some of her time to help others.  She told me that it was a very common experience to have someone call and then hangup.  I have never regretted making that second call; it was the best thing I ever did for myself!  Now all I regret is having waited so long to do it and denying myself all the fun and wonderful close friends I now have.  You can't make real and true friends if all you do is stay in a chat-room or internet group.  Those are just closets, my friend, and haven't we stayed too long in them for our own good?

              Choosing A Role Model

If I had to select just one woman to be my muse, the one I truely believe I share a feminine bond with, the one I wish to most emulate, or just plain wish my fairy godmother could make me become, it would be none other than....
               DIANE BRILL
Whom might Diane Brill be, you ask? She's the woman that can "show anyone how to fuse the strength and independence of womanhood with the sheer fun of unabashed babedom."  She is the author of  Boobs, Boys and High Heels or How To Get Dressed in Just Under Six Hours.  By her own admission in this book, she's "a leading authority on romance and art of being a contemporary Sex Goddess."

We all need to have a role model to follow, so why not a hottee!

Here are some photographs that express the variety of my fashion styles and moods, with special attention paid to my two favorite fashion accessories...great legs and sexy shoes!
